This guide explains what to expect when taking a proctored quiz and how to ensure a smooth experience.

What is a Proctored Quiz?

A proctored quiz uses your camera and screen sharing to verify exam integrity. During the quiz:
  • Your screen is captured at regular intervals
  • Your webcam records your face
  • The system monitors for suspicious activity
This helps ensure fair exams for all students.

If you have multiple monitors, disconnect or disable extras

Starting the Quiz

When you begin a proctored quiz:

1. Permission Dialog

You’ll see a dialog requesting permissions. You need to grant:
  • Camera access: To verify your identity
  • Screen sharing: To capture your exam activity
These permissions are only active during the quiz and are used solely for exam integrity.

2. Environment Check

The system checks your setup:

3. Enter Fullscreen

If required, click the button to enter fullscreen mode. The quiz runs in fullscreen to prevent distractions and ensure focus.

4. Begin the Quiz

Once all checks pass, you can start the quiz. The proctoring runs automatically in the background.

During the Quiz

What’s Being Monitored

What to Avoid

The following actions may trigger anomaly flags:
  • Switching to other browser tabs
  • Opening other applications
  • Leaving fullscreen mode
  • Using copy/paste shortcuts
  • Opening developer tools
  • Having other people visible on camera
  • Looking away from the screen for extended periods

If You See a Warning

If you accidentally trigger a warning:
  1. Don’t panic - warnings can be dismissed
  2. Return to the quiz - click back to fullscreen if prompted
  3. Continue working - focus on completing your exam
  4. Explain if needed - contact your instructor if you had a legitimate interruption

After the Quiz

When you submit your quiz:
  1. Proctoring stops automatically
  2. Your captures are securely stored
  3. Your instructor can review if needed
You cannot access or delete your proctoring data - it’s managed by your institution.

Using Safe Exam Browser (Optional)

Some quizzes may require or recommend Safe Exam Browser (SEB).

What is SEB?

Safe Exam Browser is a secure browser that:
  • Locks your computer to the exam
  • Prevents access to other applications
  • Blocks keyboard shortcuts
  • Disables copy/paste

How to Use SEB

  1. When prompted, click Open in Safe Exam Browser
  2. A configuration file downloads automatically
  3. Open the file to launch SEB
  4. Complete the quiz within SEB
  5. SEB closes automatically when you submit
If SEB is required, you cannot take the quiz in a regular browser.
