A Job Card is the operator’s instruction sheet and time record for a single production operation. When a Work Order has operations defined, Bizaxl creates one Job Card per operation. The operator uses the Job Card to start and stop the work timer, record how many units they completed, and note any issues. Together, all Job Cards for a Work Order build a complete picture of what was done on the floor.

Who Uses This Feature

Before You Start

Before a Job Card can exist:
  • A Work Order must be submitted with operations defined (the BOM must have With Operations enabled)
  • The Workstation assigned to each operation must be set up in the system
  • Raw materials must be transferred to the WIP warehouse (unless the Work Order is configured to skip transfer)

How Job Cards Are Created

Job Cards are created automatically when a Work Order is submitted (if the BOM has operations). You do not need to create Job Cards manually. Each operation in the Work Order becomes a separate Job Card, assigned to the workstation specified in the BOM.

Working with a Job Card

1

Find your Job Card

Go to the Manufacturing workspace and click the Job Card shortcut. You see all active Job Cards. The Plant Floor view (explained on the next page) offers a more visual way to find Job Cards by workstation. You can also scan the Job Card’s barcode if your workstation has a scanner.
2

Open the Job Card

Open the Job Card for your operation. Review the details:
  • Which Work Order it belongs to
  • Which operation you are performing
  • Which workstation to use
  • How many units to complete
  • When it is expected to start and finish
3

Start the timer

Click Start Job (or the start button in Plant Floor). This records the start time and changes the Job Card status to Work In Progress. The timer begins counting.
4

Log time as you work

If you pause and restart (shift change, break, machine stop), use the time log table:
  • Add a row with the From Time and To Time
  • The system calculates elapsed minutes automatically You can have multiple time log entries per Job Card.
5

Record completed quantity

In the Total Completed Qty field, enter how many units you have finished in this operation. You can update this progressively as you complete batches.
6

Record consumed materials (if applicable)

If this Job Card requires you to issue additional raw materials at the workstation, record them in the Items table. This creates a material movement from the WIP warehouse.
7

Record scrap (if applicable)

If any material was scrapped during this operation, record it in the Scrap Items table.
8

Complete the quality inspection (if required)

If a Quality Inspection is linked to this Job Card, perform the inspection and record the result before completing the Job Card.
9

Submit the Job Card

When the operation is fully complete, click Submit. The Job Card status changes to Submitted and the Work Order’s operation progress updates automatically.

Field Guide

Sub-Operations

Complex operations can be broken into Sub-Operations — smaller steps within a single operation. For example, a “Welding” operation might have sub-operations for “Tack Weld,” “Full Weld,” and “Inspection.” Operators can mark each sub-operation complete individually, and the Job Card’s overall status updates based on sub-operation completion.

Corrective Job Cards

If a defect is found during production and rework is needed, create a Corrective Job Card:
  1. Open the original Job Card
  2. Click Create Corrective Job Card
  3. A new Job Card is created with Is Corrective Job Card ticked and linked to the original
  4. Record the time spent on rework
The cost of corrective Job Cards is tracked separately and feeds into the Cost of Poor Quality Report, giving management a financial view of the impact of defects.

Reports and Monitoring

Number Cards

Ongoing Job Card shows the count of Job Cards currently in Work In Progress status. Check this on the Manufacturing dashboard to see how much work is currently active on the floor.

Dashboard Charts

Automatic Actions

When a Job Card is submitted, the Work Order automatically updates:
  • The operation’s Actual Operating Cost is recalculated based on time logged and the workstation’s hour rate
  • The operation is marked as complete
  • If all operations are complete, the Work Order progress indicator updates

Notifications and Alerts

There are no default automated notifications for Job Cards. Supervisors monitor active Job Cards through the Plant Floor view and the Job Card list in the Manufacturing workspace. If a Job Card runs significantly over its expected end time, supervisors can identify it on the Plant Floor view (see Plant Floor).

Best Practices

Log time accurately. The time logged on Job Cards drives your actual operating cost calculation. Inaccurate time records lead to inaccurate production costs. Submit Job Cards promptly. An open Job Card means an operation is shown as incomplete even if the work is done. This blocks Work Order completion. Operators should submit as soon as they finish an operation. Use the Employee field. Assigning an employee to the Job Card creates labour attribution records, useful for productivity analysis and payroll reconciliation. Use corrective Job Cards for rework. Do not add rework time to the original Job Card. Always create a corrective Job Card so rework is tracked and costed separately. This is the only way to measure the cost of quality failures. Pause and log when changing shifts. If a shift change happens mid-operation, close the current time log entry before handing over. This ensures time is attributed correctly to the right shift.

Troubleshooting

No Job Cards are created for my Work Order: Check that the Work Order’s BOM has With Operations enabled and has at least one operation in the operations table. “Cannot submit, quality inspection is pending”: A quality inspection is linked to this Job Card and is still open. Complete and submit the quality inspection first. Time is not being calculated correctly: Check that each time log row has both a From Time and a To Time entered. Rows without an end time are treated as ongoing. Job Card status is stuck in Open: The operator must click Start Job to move it to Work In Progress. Simply opening the card does not start the timer.
